Leaving work early because of pain?
I have had to do this a few times. Sometimes I get such bad cramps that I can't be comfortable no matter how I sit and it interferes with my work.

I have a male boss and the first time this happened, I was not sure how to ask if I could leave due to cramps so I lied and said I was having stomach issues from something I ate. The second time happened just a month later and I did the same again. Low and behold, another day game the month after that and my boss noticed a pattern and said is something going on so I had to tell him and he was surprisingly understanding because his wife struggled with bad cramps. It was a huge relief and now he lets me work from home if they are that bad.

Have you ever had to ask to leave? What was your experience like?
I had this happen once and I actually thought I did have some kind of stomach bug. It was the only time I had cramps come on before I started bleeding so I didn't know what was going on. By the time I got in my car and drove home, I had blood in my pants.
I had to leave a few times. I mentioned in another thread I actually lost a job over it. It is something I really try to avoid and I try to work through the pain but those first few days can be brutal.
